Beacon Youth Trust
The Beacon Youth Trust gets alongside young people across Linton, working with them in different contexts across the community. One part of the work involves providing a safe space for them to be through the drop-in centre on the recreation ground, creating opportunities to meet with other young people and build friendships, and offering the support of professional youth workers and committed volunteers.
Each week we run drop-in youth clubs after school for different age groups, with games such as pool, table tennis, consoles and card games. The sessions are run and managed by youth workers, but we rely on the support of volunteers to get to know the young people and build positive relationships with them. This could look like playing a game of Uno with them, serving at the tuckshop, listening as they share about their day, or heading out on to the skate park to engage with those who are spending time there.
We are currently limited in the number of sessions that we are able to run, and want to be able to open up more during the week, but in order to do this we are looking for new volunteers to join the team. We’re looking for people who are available on a Tuesday or Wednesday for a couple of hours, either in the late afternoon (after school) or in the evening.
We also run a Bible study group on a Thursday evening for young people who want to go deeper in their faith and explore God’s Word together, and we’re looking for leaders to help support this group as well (either to lead the studies or to be in a supporting role). Full induction and support will be offered across any of these groups, with opportunities for further training and development for those who are interested.
