Supporting Mission

At St. Mary’s, we are committed to supporting mission work to the best of our ability. This happens in a number of different ways:

Financial Giving
The PCC has a commitment to tithe 10% of our received giving to charities and mission agencies each year.

Haverhill Foodbank
We make weekly collections of food for the Haverhill Foodbank.

Lent Lunches
Each year, we hold Lent Lunches at different venues around Linton. Each year, we raise a considerable sum. Last year, the money went to ‘Children in Distress’, which looks after dying or severely disabled and abandoned children in Romania. In 2016, we are raising money for British Red Cross Syrian Refugee Fund.

Christian Aid
St. Mary’s has historically been a strong supporter of Christian Aid. We are actively engaged in Christian Aid Week and are currently exploring strengthening our relationship with that organisation over the rest of the year. For more details contact Pam Richardson

The Beacon Trust
The Beacon Trust is our local Youth & Community Project in Linton. At St. Mary’s, we are committed to regular giving to the project, to pay towards the salary of the full-time Lead Youth Worker who heads up the work.

Give as you Live
The PCC took the decision to register St Mary’s with ‘Give as you live’ in Summer 2015, an organisation recommended by the Charity Commission through which we can raise donations by online shopping. Each time you shop online through the ‘Give as you live’ firms donate a small percentage of what you spend to St Mary’s. Over 4,000 stores participate, including Sainsburys, John Lewis, Debenhams, Amazon and Ebay. If you shop online, please consider registering at When you sign up and are asked which charity you wish to support, enter ‘The Parochial Church Council Of The Ecclesiastical Parish Of St Mary The Virgin, Diocese of Ely’. Please encourage others to sign up too: if a large number of us each raises small amounts, we could boost our funds with little effort.
