Friends of St Mary’s
A brief history The Friends of St Mary, Linton were started in 1984 by the Revd Canon John Cotgrove to help with the work of repairing the church roof. In 2001, The Friends were reconstituted as a separate Charity for the purpose of caring for the Church and Churchyard. [Charity Commission No. 1088328) The Annual General Meeting is held in May each year.
Since 2001 the Friends have raised over £150,000, through subscriptions, donations, sales of calendars and other items, and a wealth of fund-raising activities. A generous gift in 2007, of the estate of our late organist, Richard Godel, has been invested to increase the annual income. This has enabled the Friends in recent years to contribute to new lighting, up-dating the sound system, repairs to stained glass and church fabric, a new south porch door, roof repairs, a new high altar frontal and kneeler, and a book cupboard.
